Words of Wisdom from Kevin Rose
by Scott Edward Walker on December 20th, 2013To Our Clients & Friends: Welcome to our weekly series “Helping Entrepreneurs Succeed.” Each week, we post a favorite video of a successful entrepreneur, investor or business leader on a variety of topics. This week, we present Kevin Rose, a Partner at Google Ventures and a brilliant entrepreneur.
In this solid interview by Jason Calacanis at the LAUNCH Hackathon last month, Kevin shares his experiences, his insight and the following nuggets for entrepreneurs:
- “It’s just trial and error – and understanding that’s not a bad thing.” (at 21:12)
- “There’s nothing wrong with failing.” (at 21:18)
- “Don’t let anyone ever tell you that, if you went and built something and it failed, you’re a failure. That’s not true because what did they do? They didn’t build anything.” (at 21:31)
- “Look at Pincus from Zynga. How many companies did he start before he finally had a hit on his hands?” (at 21:51)
- “You have to have that in your body and in your DNA to understand that failure is not a negative thing.” (at 22:07)
- “There are a couple of things that I think are key when you guys are going out there and pitching [investors]. One, I think, is…that you have an original idea. This can’t be ‘Pinterest for cats’ or just another knock-off.” (at 28:38)
- “[The founders] have to be a little crazy – I kind of like that… ready to take-on the world.” (at 29:21)
- “You only get one chance on mobile. When a user takes the time to go and download and install your application, …that fit and finish has to be there…you have to have that polish…” (29:50)
I hope you enjoy it. Cheers, Scott
