To Our Clients & Friends: Welcome to our weekly series “Helping Entrepreneurs Succeed.”  Each week, we post a favorite video clip of a successful entrepreneur, investor or business leader on a variety of topics.  This week, we present Jeff Hoffman, a highly-successful, serial entrepreneur who was part of the founding teams of Priceline.com and uBid.com.

In this solid, 10-minute clip (via Startup Grind), Jeff shares some words of wisdom for entrepreneurs, including the following:

  • “Solve real problems.  I see so many entrepreneurs working on things that very few people outside of them think is important.” (at 1:25)
  • “Don’t chase money, chase excellence – because money follows excellence.” (at 5:09)
  • “You don’t achieve excellence by doing one-sixth of six things. You achieve excellence by finding something in the world that you can be the best at and being the best at that.” (at 5:49)
  • “You can’t do it yourself. You are simply not as smart as you think you are.” (at 7:18)
  • “The only way to really listen [to] customers is to just hang-out… hang-out where they hang-out.” (at 11:03)

I hope you enjoy it.  Cheers, Scott
