Words of Wisdom from Simon Sinek
by Scott Edward Walker on September 6th, 2013
To Our Clients & Friends: Welcome to our weekly series “Helping Entrepreneurs Succeed.” Each week, we share a favorite video clip of a successful entrepreneur, investor or leader on a variety of topics. This week, we present Simon Sinek, a brilliant thinker and author.
In this fascinating speech from a few years back (courtesy of TED), Simon shares some words of wisdom for entrepreneurs, including the following:
- “Very, very few people or organizations know why they do what they do…. By ‘why’ I mean: ‘What’s your purpose?’ ‘What’s your cause?’ ‘What’s your belief?’” (at 2:37)
- “The inspired leaders and the inspired organizations – regardless of their size, regardless of their industry – all think, act and communicate from the inside-out.” (at 3:06)
- “People don’t buy what you do; people buy why you do it.” (at 4:34)
- “The goal is not to just to sell to people who need what you have. The goal is to sell to people who believe what you believe.” (at 7:50)
- “If you hire people just because they can do a job, they’ll work for your money. But if you hire people who believe what you believe, they’ll work for you with blood and sweat and tears.” (at 8:03)
- “If you talk about what you believe, you will attract those who believe what you believe.” (at 10:57)
I hope you enjoy it. Cheers, Scott
